4 Reasons Why Your Social Media Content Is Not Working (And How To Fix It)

Not getting the results you want from social media? Learn about four most common social media mistakes and how to fix them.

Troubleshoot your content marketing to identify some of the most common content marketing bottlenecks.

We surveyed marketing professionals and the two most common bottlenecks in content marketing and social media content production are the lack of good strategy and lack of good content ideas.

But what if you think you have a killer strategy, and your ideas are excellent too, and you are still not getting the marketing results you want?

Let’s look at some of the most common problems in social media content creation and publishing.

How to fix the most common social media mistakes

1. Your content is not branded.

Your content is great, and people like it, they even share it on their social media, but it doesn’t seem to bring any results.

Maybe your content is not branded enough, and while people like the content, they don’t associate the content with your company and products. The content is too generic, and doesn’t stand out, and as a result people don’t even remember it was you who posted it.

All that good vibes you are creating goes wasted, and it’s just socia media entertainment without driving any business results for you.

How to fix this social media problem:

Make sure all of the social media content you post is clearly branded.

That can mean that it has your visual branding like logo, colors and fonts, and that the content follows your brand’s tone of voice. Stand out!

While entertaining and engaging content performs the best, remember to sell sometimes too, and have clear call to action what you wold like your audience to do.

2. You are too salesy.

The other opposite from being too vague, is that you only sell and talk about yourself

Each social media post is about your brand, your company, your products, your people, your ideas, your marketing campaigns, your offers. You, you, you.

Do you even care about your customers, and ever wonder what’s going on in their lives?

How to fix this social media problem:

Create content that looks at your customer’s life and problems, and relates to those.

Create entertaining and informative content how you understand your customers feelings towards the problems they have, and what’s the end result when they have used your products.

Try to create content that does not only focus on the product features and price, but more about the results they help your customers to achieve.

3. Your content is not tagged well enough.

Let’s be honest: most social media platforms don’t show all of your content to all of your followers

You need to work extra hard in order to get your content in the front of your followers and in the feeds of potential new customers who are not even following you yet.

How to fix this social media problem:

Make sure every piece of content is tagged properly. Every single tag improves your visibility and performance.

List of tags you need to go through and optimize:
  • Tagging media, influencers, partners
  • Tagging products with links where to purchase
  • Hashtags: your own and your niche/industry, and trending ones
  • Geo tags: tagging the location in a map and in the picture if possible
  • Tagging outsourced team like videographer, photographer, hair and make up team, model
  • Remembering to tag again when you also reshare the content, for example when you share a YouTube video on LinkedIn, or an Instagram Reel in the Stories section.

4. You don’t post often enough.

Congratulations, you feel you have mastered your social media game and your branded content is on point. You are well aware of the best tags to use, and timing your posts right.

But you still wish you could kick it up a notch and get better results?

Maybe you need to check on the quantity of posts you publish.

There are cases where companies publish so much that it borderlines spam, and it drives people away (especially if they make the mistake #2 and only talk about themselves).

But according to our survey, over 94% of marketing managers would publish more content if they could, and most likely you are not publishing enough content
